It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that Amy Archer, Sloane’s House first Executive Director, will be stepping down from her position as of July 29, 2023.

Amy became Executive Director in November 2020 and over her two and a half years led the organization through the challenges of the pandemic, delivering us even stronger when we resumed our in-person activities, including our annual golf tournament. 

Well-known in Durham Region before joining Sloane’s House, Amy’s prior knowledge and experience as a Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Consultant (PPSMC), membership on the original team who opened the doors to Emily’s House pediatrics hospice centre in Toronto, and  10 years working in the area of Hematology Oncology at Sick Kids brought authenticity and inspiration to the story of Sloane’s House and solidified our project at the forefront of community priorities with local and provincial political leaders as well as community partners.

Amy has advanced Sloane’s House from an idea to a reality, overseeing the launch of our new website, recruiting fundraising volunteers and building awareness through community outreach.  Most recently she has led efforts to deliver the first Sloane’s Day taking place at WindReach Farm on July 29th.  This accessible and inclusive recreational event, presented in partnership with Grandview Kids and sponsored by 100 Men of Whitby,  is a concrete demonstration of what Sloane’s House will be to children with medical complexity and their families, and a direct reflection of Amy’s inspiring leadership. She has also launched Sloane’s House on a clear path towards a capital campaign, now firmly on the horizon.

The Board of Sloane’s House congratulates Amy and wishes her well on her next project and extends our heartfelt gratitude for all her many contributions over her pivotal tenure at Sloane’s House.  The Board will be launching a process for a new Executive Director in the coming weeks.
