Welcome to our new Executive DirectorThe Board of Sloane’s House is pleased to announce that Brenda Slomka joined the organization as the new Executive Director as of January 2024.
Brenda who grew up in Pickering and has ties to the Durham Region comes to Sloane’s House as the organization continues to reach out to government stakeholders, community leaders and donors on its goal of building a paediatric respite and hospice care centre in Durham Region. Brenda’s commitment to community development through various leadership roles on sector and community-based committees and boards has affected change. Improving the lives of students, clients, caregivers and others is a core value she brings to this new role.
“Brenda’s career and experience in the post-secondary education sector in project management and program administration will be a great asset to Sloane’s House in advancing our project through the approval and fundraising stage,” said Jason Hunt, Board Chair. “With an estimated 1,900 children with medically complex needs in Durham Region and surrounding communities, 800 in Durham alone, the need for this centre is clear.”
Brenda has a Master of Arts from Trinity Western University in BC and a Professional Master of Public Admin, Indigenous Policy Stream (PMPA) from Queens, as well as Mental Health and Disability Management Diploma from Mohawk College, and has worked in diverse roles within higher education.
Brenda looks forward to building on the achievements of Amy Archer, Sloane’s House first Executive Director, and creating strong relationships with the families and other stakeholders.
